Republican Donald Trump on Friday retreated from comments calling President Barack Obama and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton the founders of ISIS.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus unexpectedly introduced Donald Trump at a campaign event in Erie, Pennsylvania, where the two hugged onstage.

Priebus showed trust and expressed his support and pleasure for working with the latter. “We’re so honored to be working with Donald Trump,” said Priebus.

“And don’t believe the garbage you read. Let me tell you something. Donald Trump, the Republican Party, all of you, we’re going to put him in the White House and save this country together” he added.

Trump brought Priebus on stage at a rally in Altoona, Pennsylvania, to show unity and to thank Priebus for his efforts, noting that Priebus was furious over Trump’s failure to endorse House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan; however Trump did endorse Ryan a few days after that.

During the rallies in Altoona and Erie Trump clarified that his previous remarks on Obama and Clinton being the founders of ISIS, had been sarcastic.

“I have been saying because it’s true, but somewhat sarcastically, that he’s the founder of ISIS and she’s a close second,” Trump said in Altoona.

Back in July Trump also claimed sarcasm after he was greatly critiqued for inviting Russia to dig up tens of thousands of “missing” emails from Clinton’s time as U.S. secretary of state.
