Hillary Clinton has widened her lead over Donald Trump by 8-points over Trump – 49 percent to 41 percent, according to the NBC News/Survey Monkey Election Tracking Poll.

Clinton’s 8-point margin grew from 6-point (42 percent to 36 per cent) lead over Trump last week when Green candidate Jill Stein and Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson were included in the NBC poll.
The Democratic nominee’s largest gain in the poll this week was among the youth.

Clinton’s current 68 percent support among 18-24 year olds grew from 56 percent last week. It is believed that this may have been prompted by Bernie Sanders, a favourite among young voters, stating last week that he will likely vote for Clinton in the upcoming election.

However, the poll also showed that 45% of Democrats would have preferred a different nominee to Clinton. Trump scored worse in this regard as 52% of Republicans said that they would have preferred a different nominee.

Despite this poll indicating that Clinton is widening her national lead over Trump, many Republican supporters have firmly rallied behind the Republican nominee and dismissed the “Stop Trump” movement, an informal name for the organised effort of some Republicans to prevent Trump from attaining the presidential nomination of the Republican Party.

Trump has not commented on the latest poll results.
