Iran has sentenced an American citizen to jail on alleged spying charges.

The judiciary said that it sentenced the suspect to ten years in jail for allegedly “infiltrating” the country and gathering information.

The identity of the American has not been revealed.

Judiciary spokesman Gholamhosein Mohseni Ejehi announced the sentence during a briefing to reporters Sunday.

The court only said that the suspect was a dual national holding American citizenship and that of another country.

Ejehi says the verdict can be appealed.
