Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has won re-election with a resounding 57 percent of the vote, Interior Minister Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli announced on Saturday.

With 99.7 percent of ballots counted, Rouhani had 23.5 million votes compared to 15.8 million for hardline challenger Ebrahim Raisi, Rahmani Fazli said on state television, adding that the results were final.

“I congratulate the great victory of the Iranian nation in creating a huge and memorable epic in the continuation of the path of ‘wisdom and hope’,” tweeted Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri, referring to the government’s slogan.

Rahmani Fazli called on Iranians on Friday night to ignore the rumors and unverified figures about the outcome of election before the official results of the presidential race are officially announced the next day.

Four eligible candidates ran in the elections: two conservatives, Raisi and Mostafa Mirsalim, in addition to two moderates, Rouhani and Mostafa Hashemitaba.
