US President Donald Trump held talks on Sunday with Bahrain King Sheikh Hamad bin Issa al-Khalifa on the margins of his visit to Saudi Arabia.
He said after the talks in Riyadh: “Our countries have a wonderful relationship together, but there has been a little strain.”
“There won’t be strain with this administration,” he added.
“We’re going to have a very, very long-term relationship. I look forward to it very much – many of the same things in common,” Trump stated.
Bahraini Foreign Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed al-Khalifa had declared in April that Trump understands the Iranian threats against the US-allied Gulf better than his predecessor Barack Obama.
