A woman detonated her explosive belt in a market east of Karbala on Friday, killing at least 30 and wounding 35 in an attack claimed by the ISIS terrorist organization.

The attack took place in Musayab, a town that lies 60 kilometers south of Baghdad, Iraqi security sources said.

ISIS did not identify the bomber after issuing a statement on its Amaq news agency claiming responsibility for the attack.

But a security officer said the assailant was a woman who hid the bomb under a full-body veil.

The attack in Musayab came hours after another, apparently failed attack in Karbala, a few kilometers to the southwest.

Four civilians were wounded when a suicide bomber blew himself up at the entrance of the city’s main bus station early Friday, police sources said.

ISIS is about to lose Mosul, the de-facto capital of the terrorist organization in Iraq, to a US-backed Iraqi offensive launched eight months ago.

Iraqi forces have already taken back Mosul’s whole eastern side and much of the west.

The group is also on the backfoot in neighboring Syria, retreating in the face of a US-backed Kurdish-led coalition attacking its bastion of Raqqa.
