A meeting bringing together both the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia started on Tuesday. The event took place in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi.

UAE Vice President and Ruler of Dhabi Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and over 150 government officials and a number of private and public sector experts took part in the meeting, reported the Saudi state-owned news agency SPA.

The joint retreat is an initiative put forth by the Saudi-UAE Coordination Council, set up and launched by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The council includes joint task teams concerned with several sectors and fields which will hold a series of periodic meetings in the coming period to step up bilateral cooperation on issues of mutual concern.

The council is co-chaired by Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Second Deputy Premier and Minister of Defense, and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, along with a number of ministers and officials.

The meeting aims to establish the council as a model for cooperation and integration among nations, reflecting the two countries’ determination to consolidate relations through cooperation in a wide range of fields to achieve common interests, and enhance the prospects of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Member States.

For his part, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashed Al Maktoum confirmed that the unification of the capabilities enjoyed by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates could create a historic opportunity for the people of the two countries as well as the region at large.

He expressed optimism of the determination secure meeting between the two sides, saying that “with our unity, we protect our achievements, strengthen our economies and build a better future for our people”.

Sheikh Mansour bin Zaid Al Nahyan said the aim of the confine meeting of determination is to explore the potentials and opportunities available to the two countries.

This exceptional meeting has tackled ten areas of integration, the results of which will be announced in a later meeting in Riyadh, he disclosed.
