A Saudi soldier has died from injuries sustained in a landmine explosion on the border with Yemen.

The border guards corporal died in hospital after the explosion in Jazan province, the interior ministry said late on Thursday.

“Corporal Younes Mohammed Ali Abu Rasain died as a martyr,” the ministry said in a statement published by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The Saudi-led coalition that supports legitimacy in Yemen has previously said the Houthi insurgents have laid mines along the border.

On Wednesday, a Saudi soldier was killed in a firefight in Jazan.

A border guard post in the province came under heavy fire by the Houthi militias, the security spokesman for the interior ministry said.

The army intervened to back up the border guards and one soldier was killed, he added.
