A Saudi policeman has been shot and wounded in Qatif governorate, the interior ministry said on Thursday.

First Soldier Walid al-Hujaili was shot “from an unknown source” late on Tuesday after leaving his security patrol to carry out his field missions in Ohod street in Qatif, the interior ministry’s security spokesman said in a statement.

“His condition is stable” in hospital, the Saudi Press Agency quoted the spokesman as saying.

The security authorities have launched an investigation into the terrorist crime, he added.

On Wednesday, a mine blast on Saudi Arabia’s border with Yemen killed a Saudi border guard, a day after a similar fatality.

The latest explosion occurred at 1:00 am during a patrol in Jazan region, the interior ministry said in a statement.

The border guard was wounded in the blast and died when he arrived at hospital, it added.
