The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud issued on Saturday a royal order amending the name of “The Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution” to “the Public Prosecution” and calling its chairman the “Public Prosecutor.”

“The Public Prosecution is directly linked to the King, enjoys full independence, and no one shall interfere in its work,” according to the order carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

“The Bureau of Experts of the Cabinet in conjunction with relevant authorities shall review the regulations of The Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution, the code of criminal procedures, other regulations and relevant royal orders, propose amendments in accordance with this order and submit the outcomes within a period not exceeding ninety days from its date in order to complete the necessary legal procedures,” SPA added.

In a related move, King Salman issued a royal order relieving Sheikh Mohammed bin Fahd bin Abdulrahman Al-Abdullah Al-Areeni, the President of the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution of his post, SPA said.

The order appointed Sheikh Saud bin Abdullah bin Mubarak Al-Mu’jeb as Public Prosecutor at the rank of minister, the agency added.

The King issued other orders, including the appointment of Faisal bin Abdulaziz bin Labdah as Adviser at the Royal Court at the rank of General, terminating the service of Lieutenant General Othman bin Nasser Al-Mahraj, the Director of Public Security by referring him to retirement, and promoting Major General Saud bin Abdulaziz Hilal to the rank of Lieutenant General by appointing him as Director of Public Security.

Another royal order appointed Abdulhakim bin Mohammed bin Sulaiman Al-Tamimi as President of General Authority of Civil Aviation at the rank of minister.
