Over a million pilgrims have arrived in Saudi Arabia to perform the annual Hajj, announced the Passport General Department on Sunday, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

It said that as of Saturday, a total of 1,070,951 pilgrims had arrived in the Kingdom.

This marks an increase of 204,302 pilgrims compared to 2016 at a rise of 24 percent, said the Department.

The pilgrims had arrived in the Kingdom through land, sea and air routes.

A total of 1,015,482 pilgrims arrived by air, 50,554 by land and 4,915 by land.

On Sunday, the General Presidency for the affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque distributed bottles of zamzam water on the pilgrims at the Masjid al-Haram, said SPA.
