Saudi Foreign Minister Adel bin Ahmed al-Jubeir declared on Saturday that the visit of US President Donald Trump to Saudi Arabia bolsters cooperation between the two countries and the Arab and Muslim worlds.

He said during a joint press conference with his US counterpart Rex Tillerson in Riyadh that Trump’s visit marks the beginning of a new phase of bilateral ties.

He noted that the strategic partnership agreements signed between Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and the US president earlier on Saturday will develop into a strong strategic partnership.

Jubeir stressed that terrorism and extremism will be dealt with in many ways.

Defense capabilities will be raised and the determination for joint defense cooperation will be increased, said the foreign minister.

He deemed as “historic” Trump’s visit, saying it will open the door for joint cooperation between Riyadh and Washington in trade, investment and education fields, as well as bolster joint interests and cooperation against challenges facing both countries.

“This is unprecedented. We have never signed such agreement between the leaders of two countries to bolster strategic partnership. We want to go ahead with this partnership,” Jubeir told reporters.

He emphasized that agreements worth more than $380 billion were signed and they will be implemented in the next ten years.

On Trump’s discussions with King Salman, the FM revealed that they addressed confronting challenges, as well as bilateral ties and ways to improve them.

They also covered the danger of terrorism and extremism and the funding of terror groups and ways to confront them, Jubeir said, while underlining the need to put an end to Iran’s meddling in the internal affairs of regional countries.

Some decisions have been taken over halting Iran’s funding of terrorism and its violations of human rights, he revealed.

Jubeir highlighted King Salman’s determination to take the necessary measures to end the ongoing conflict in Syria and reach permanent peace between a Palestinian state and Israel.

He also addressed the conflict in Yemen, while stressing the unprecedented Islamic-US summit that will take place in Riyadh on Sunday.

For his part, Tillerson said that the partnership between Saudi Arabia and the US is based on trust and the pursuit of common goals.

He stressed the need to work on executing the strategic partnership agreement, which would deliver a strong message to rivals.

He clarified that bolstering this relationship is based on joint security interest and the need to dry up the funding of terrorism and strengthen cooperation in defense fields.

He added that economic cooperation between the Kingdom and the US is the basis for solid ties.

The defense deals struck with the US will enable Riyadh to confront terrorism and Iranian meddling, revealed Tillerson.

He stated that the US is coordinating efforts to confront Iran’s expansionist ambitions in Yemen and Syria.

On Yemen, the US Secretary of State declared that Washington will focus on finding a peaceful settlement and pressuring all parties to return to the dialogue table.
