Police have shot dead an ISIS member when he pulled a gun on a patrol in the capital Riyadh, the interior ministry said in a statement carried by state news agency SPA on Wednesday.

The patrol was trying to check a complaint at 6:00 pm Tuesday that a resident of a furnished apartment in the capital’s al-Rayyan district had shown support to ISIS and joined the jihadist group, the ministry said.

“When security men tried to arrest him, he initiated resistance and pulled a gun and it became necessary to deal with him and neutralize him, which led to his death,” it said.

Another person was arrested and was found to be in possession of a weapon, the ministry added.

The security spokesman for the ministry also said that a Saudi policeman was killed on Tuesday afternoon after coming under fire in Qatif.

“When Qatif policeman Musa DakhailAllah Al-Sharari of the ‘old’ Tarot police station in the province of Qatif was leaving in his car, he came under fire from an unknown source, resulting in his martyrdom,” the statement said.

The police authorities have launched a criminal investigation into the crime to determine its motives, it added.
