Riyadh-Yemeni Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Civil Service and Insurance, Abdulaziz Jabbari, said that the pro-government party will translate the UN Resolution “2216” during its meeting with rebels’ delegation under the UN umbrella in Kuwait next month.

He pointed out that the UN imposed sanctions on ousted former president Ali Abdullah Saleh and that the UN is responsible for implementing them.

During a phone call with Asharq Al-Awsat, Jabbari explained that the legislative government’s vision in the negotiations does not exceed the International Security Council. Therefore, rebels shall commit to the pledges delivered to the UN Envoy to Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh, which require them to withdraw from Yemeni provinces, hand over their heavy weapons to the government, release prisoners and the resume the political process.

Jabbari added that the rebels should avoid contradictions in their statements as” we agreed in Geneva 2 to resume third round of talks within 10 days or two weeks, and they are committed to implement UN resolution 2216,” he said, adding that “their actions on Yemeni territories, besieging Taiz and not releasing detainees contradict with Geneva 2 commitments.”

Yemeni Minister of Civil Service and Insurance drew attention to the fact that the UN received pledges from Houthis and Saleh’s delegation to implement resolution 2216. He added, “We welcome any effort put in this aspect, and we, Yemeni legislative government delegation, want peace not war and who wants war is the party that imposes it and coup against the government.”

Jabbari confirmed that the Yemeni legislative delegation is willing to meet the rebels’ delegation, and he requested the legislative delegation to provide him with the vision, which will be submitted in the coming negotiations in Kuwait next month. He also asserted that the legislative delegation is ready for it and has been working since Geneva 1 and 2 to make sure their requests are to be implemented soon.
