Iraq’s Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi received at his office on Saturday Saudi Arabia Minister of Foreign Affairs Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir, who is on an official visit to Iraq.

During the meeting, they discussed issues of common interest in addition to means of enhancing bilateral relations, reported Saudi state-owned news agency SPA.

Following the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs attended a luncheon banquet held in his honor by the Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, Minister of Foreign Affairs Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir met with his Iraqi counterpart Ibrahim Al-Jaafari.

Following the meeting, Al-Jubeir expressed his happiness to visit Iraq for the first time and described his meeting with the Prime Minister as positive and fruitful.

Al-Jubeir congratulated the Republic of Iraq on its achievements in countering terrorism, stressing the desire of both countries to eliminate the scourge of terrorism.

Al-Jubeir told Iraqi officials in Baghdad on Saturday that the kingdom plans to appoint a new ambassador, an Iraqi foreign ministry official said.

Al-Jubeir’s visit to Baghdad is the first by a Saudi foreign minister since 1990.
