Beirut- Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper lawyer appealed last Friday against the judicial decision on freeing the seven arrested attackers, who had assaulted the newspaper’s Beirut offices.

The retributive single judge, Wael Sadiq, has approved the requests of discharge presented by Hassan Bazzi, the assailants’ lawyer. Bazzi will be the legal representative of Pierre Hashash, Bilal Fawaz A’lwe, Hussein Ali Naser al Din, Mohammed Mahmoud Hirz, Aala Jamal Hussein, Hassan Bade’ Qutaish, Jad Nicola abu Daher.

A 550-dollar bail was approved for discharging each of the attackers.

The seven assailants are still held in custody at the Ministry of Justice building in Beirut, until Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper reveals its official stance on the bail discharge, which will be presented to court on April 9.

The newspaper’s lawyer, Najib Khater, will appeal against discharging the assailants and to hold them in detention. The file will be given to the courthouse for appeal on trial court in Beirut, and the decision will be up to Judge Sadiq, as to whether to release the assailants or keep them in detention. The official trial will begin next Monday.

Khatar clarified that the appeal statement presented is a critical factor of penal criminal investigation, which is the impropriety of releasing the defendant prior to court interrogation, because if released there is no guarantee that the defendant will get back to court to testify.
