LG Electronics has recently launched the Mosquito Away TV in India, the new set has a special feature that repels mosquitoes which can spread diseases such as malaria, Zika and dengue by the use of ultrasonic waves as they dislike the sound, however since these waves are inaudible to the human ear, and thus do not bother viewers

The TV’s “Mosquito Away set was released in the country on Thursday, according to LG, who also added that the very same technology which was certified as operative by an independent laboratory near Chennai, India, has been in air conditioners and washing machines, by LG.

The technology, which also functions when the TV is switched off, is available in two models, priced at $394 and $706, noting that this TV model is targeted to those who live in lower-income conditions that would make them vulnerable to mosquitoes.

The new TV set will go on sale in other countries soon, for instance it shall be available in the markets next month in the Philippines and Sri Lanka. Kim Sang-yeol, an LG Electronics official, said there are no plans for now to market it elsewhere.

The company began developing the set before the outbreak of the Zika virus in Latin America, which has fuelled concern over safety at the Olympic Games set to begin in August in Rio de Janeiro.

LG said on its website that the TV is not intended to replace other mosquito-deterrent devices.
