Yemeni political sources have informed Asharq Al-Awsat that the second round of Yemeni consultations taking place in Kuwait will be temporarily suspended, and will resume immediately after the Arab League summit that will be held in the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott, and commence on Monday the 25th of July.

The sources confirmed that Hadi will extensively review the Yemen conflict and the coup that was carried out by the Houthis and the ousted president Ali Abdullah Saleh against legitimacy in September 2014.

The information received also refers to the key issues that will be discussed ahead of the summit. The most prominent of which are the condemnation of continuing Iranian intervention in Yemeni affairs through arming the rebels and the need for a political solution to end the crisis and the war in Yemen in light of resolutions regarding international legitimacy, particularly UN Security Council resolution No. 2216.

The Arab League summit will highlight the need for the rebels to lay down their weapons and withdraw from the cities, and the reinstatement of legitimacy so that the government can rule over the capital Sana’a and other cities and provinces. It will also highlight the need for the withdrawal of weapons before heading towards a political process in light of the outcomes of the national dialogue, the Gulf initiative and its mechanisms for implementation.

Other informed sources told Asharq Al-Awsat that the ambassadors of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the United States and Britain returned to Kuwait, after a meeting which brought these states together to discuss the Yemen crisis in London two days ago. The information provided indicates that many of the ideas will be reviewed by the ambassadors with members of both delegations to the consultations in light of a draft resolution concerning the Yemen crisis which was referred to at the meeting in London.
