Khartoum – Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir concluded on Thursday a Gulf tour, which took him to Kuwait and Bahrain.

Bashir’s meetings with Arab leaderships resulted in an agreement over a strategic partnership between Sudan and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

In this regard, Sudanese Foreign Affairs Minister Ibrahim Ghandour said that Gulf countries have agreed to forge a new partnership with the African country, which would be signed during the upcoming meeting of GCC Foreign Affairs Ministers.

Addressing reporters at Khartoum Airport upon the return of the Sudanese delegation from Bahrain, Ghandour said that the strategic partnership was the fruit of excellent relations between Sudan and Gulf countries over the past years.

“These efforts were led by the president, and were crowned with this partnership, which we hope would best serve the interests of our Arab nation and brothers in the Gulf,” the Sudanese minister said.

Bashir concluded a three-day visit to Kuwait and Bahrain, during which he held separate talks with Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah and King of Bahrain Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

The meetings resulted in an agreement to form a ministerial committee, which will convene in the fourth quarter of 2017, to discuss the new strategic partnership.

According to Ghandour, the Kuwaiti emir expressed his country’s readiness “to offer everything that contributes to Sudan’s stability, growth and economic development.”

Bilateral discussions also touched on the support to the Arab Food Security Initiative, which was adopted by the Arab League, as well as an initiative to rebuild Sudan, which will be launched by Saudi Arabia.
