According to diplomatic sources, the board of the United Nation’s International Atomic Energy Agency decided to close the inquiry into any possible military dimensions (PMD) of Iran’s nuclear program, moving Tehran another step closer to large-scale sanctions relief following its deal with the six world powers in July 2015.

The unanimous decision by the 35-nation group will end the 12-year probe while allowing inspectors to continue monitoring Tehran’s program. “The resolution by the board of governors of the agency shows the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program,” said Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) released a report, which concluded that Iran had worked on a “range of activities relevant to the development of a nuclear explosive device,” despite its denial of any work on a nuclear weapons program. The report issued was the final component of the road map for clarifying outstanding issues on Iran’s program. The next step was for Iran to complete preparatory steps to start implementing the final nuclear deal.
The Director General of IAEA said that his agency will be responsible for certifying Iran’s compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, the document governing the nuclear agreement.

Notably, Iran has violated a UN resolution in October when it test-launched a medium-range missile capable of carrying a nuclear warhead, a UN panel of experts has concluded in a report that could lead to sanctions.

“On the basis of its analysis and findings, the panel concludes that Emad launch is a violation by Iran of paragraph 9 of Security Council resolution 1929″, said the report presented to the council last week”.
