London – Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan announced on Monday that his country had successfully test fired the latest version of a submarine-launched cruise missile named “Nasir”.

“During the military drills in the south Iranian territorial waters, the new model of the SLCM named Nasir was test-fired and successfully hit its target,” Dehqan said during a press conference without giving any further details about the missile.

Iran’s navy on Sunday began its annual drill near the Strait of Hormuz, its first major exercise since the inauguration of US President Donald Trump.

Several Iranian news agencies reported that a laser-guided missile “Dehlaviyeh“ had also been successfully tested.

It was reported back in 2012 that Iran had based the Dehlaviyeh on a Russian anti-tank missile. The ranges of the latest versions were not given.

Ali Fadavi, naval commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, said that his forces are ready to face any attack on any aggression of violation in the Gulf.

He added that IRGC can use force to stop any US ship if it violated the law in the gulf or caused pollution or damaged any of the naval facilities.

Mehr news agency reported Fadavi saying that both the nationality or the flag of the ship do not matter.

“Iran owns high level of power that allows it to face any violation of wrongdoing of ships passing through the gulf or Amman Sea,” stressed Fadavi.
