Riyadh-Philippines announced that it was satisfied with the quick and effective steps that the Saudi authorities took to protect Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW).

Advisor of Philippines President for OFW Abdullah Mamao said that Riyadh took swift measures to protect the Filipino workers in Saudi Arabia. He thanked the Saudi government for quickly moving to solve the matter.

Mamao met a number of Saudi officials at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and expressed his satisfaction with the Saudi authorities’ measures for the compensation of thousands of distressed Filipinos working in the private sector.

Mamao said that the president of Philippines is glad with the positive measures and that he will soon send a report to the prime minister and government to inform them of his findings and services for Filipinos.

Minister of Labor and Social Affairs spokesperson Khalid Abou al-Kheil told Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that the Filipino Minister of Labor will arrive in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday and is scheduled to meet with his Saudi counterpart. The two will discuss several matters, including the case of OFW in private sectors.

Abo Kheil confirmed that Saudi Arabia offers all services necessary for the repatriation of OFW, such as housing and other primary services all over the kingdom.

Earlier, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman issued a directive for immediate attention to the problems faced by Overseas Filipino Workers.

Under the directive, distressed OFWs are given the option either to go home or work for other companies in the Kingdom if they are willing to be transferred, and in both cases, the Saudi government would help.
