Dammam – During the 6th Safety & Fire Protection Conference organized by the Saudi Council of Engineers, and under the umbrella of the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), the establishment of the “Scientific Association of Fire Prevention” has been announced.

Dr.Bassam Ghulman, vice chairman of the Council of Engineers board, has stressed the importance of providing the required solutions and mechanisms to prevent fires amid myriad of dangers that can occur in projects.

During the opening of the conference, Ghulmad added that the projects implemented have faced heavy criticisms as per the adopted security and safety standards.

According to the council’s vice chairman, the conference will discuss important matters on the protection of people and properties, and will seek a developed safety strategy, which comes as part of the government’s campaign of safety and prevention from fire accidents in the urban environment.

Ghulman asserted that the application of the Saudi Arabian Code will remarkably contribute in covering many disadvantages and gaps; the code imposes technical, scientific and managerial regulations to secure a minimum of safety and public health in cases of natural disasters and dangers like earthquakes and fire accidents.

The ceremony comprised a keynote for the Chair of the conference Muhammad M. Al-Saggaf, senior vice president of Operations and Business Services at Aramco , in which he shed the light on the company’s efforts in the field of safety and security, and the developmental steps it took.

Dr. Hussein Yahya al-Fadhli, secretary general of the Saudi Council of Engineers said that the conference tackled the commitment to safety standards as a national duty; it discussed more than 33 work papers in the field of security and prevention from fire accidents from Saudi Arabia, Gulf Countries, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

This conference also aimed to provide educational opportunity for people seeking more information on the safety from fire accidents in establishments like petrochemicals refineries, Hydrocarbons storage, fuel transport system, educational establishments, malls and high buildings.
