Riyadh-Thursday night was an extraordinary night in Riyadh; the Saudi audience delivered its message loudly, singing along with, and even louder than, singers.

A historical night that included Artist of Arabs Mohammed Abdu and Legendary Arab singer Rashed al-Majed at King Fahad Cultural Center hall launched the return of concerts to the Saudi capital after a hiatus of 28 years.

Both singers have Saudi roots and are popular throughout the Arab world but fans said Abdu had not sung in the Saudi capital since 1988.

On Thursday, the flags of the nation rose and love for the homeland and its rulers was in the air.

Majed gave his fans three encores after they had waited about three decades for such a show.

Majed expressed his happiness and told Asharq Al-Awsat that he is overwhelmed for singing in his homeland and among his precious audience.

“Singing in my country felt different. I am very proud for watching the audience raise the Kingdom’s flag and sing with us.”

He thanked the entertainment authority and described members of the audience as champions.
