Voting centers opened doors across Saudi Arabia on the morning of Dec.12 for voters to participate in the third session of Municipal elections, which included the unprecedented participation of the Saudi women.
1.4 million voters, both men and women, put forth their votes on six thousand male and female candidates, in an election that went on until 5:00 pm.
The executive committee for Municipal Elections confirmed to Asharq-Al-Awsat that the elections went smoothly according to plans put by specialized committee, with no violations being recorded.
Abdul Latif Al-Sheikh, Saudi Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs, accounted for the citizens flocking to the voting centers, which affirms their enthusiasm and awareness of the election that, now in its third session, is considered historical with female voters and candidates participating.
